China earthquake kills 9,000

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck central China earlier today, causing the collapse of buildings, including a school where 900 students were trapped under the rubble. A chemical plant in one area cratered, burying hundreds and spilling more than 80 tons of toxic liquid ammonia from the site. The temblor was felt as far away as Vietnam and Thailand, and posed a challenge to a government already grappling with a widespread uprising among Tibetans in western China.

Walk for Seals

Last month, New Jersey eighth grader Marcelo Hoynowski organized the "New Jersey Walk for Seals" to campaign against Canada's seal hunt. This young activist started a website called mypointis.net to inform people about the seal hunt and ways to end it.
