“I've always been interested in volunteering with my local animal shelter. I've also had the opportunity of volunteering with the National Honor Society in high school and am starting to volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity, an organization I joined at my university this fall. I am involved with DoSomething.org through their different campaigns and awareness raised with their varied causes. I plan on graduating with my masters degree in social work, which will allow me to pursue child advocacy and other career paths associated with the welfare of my community. Millions of puppies are born in horrible conditions each year, just so puppy mills can make a profit.
You & your friends stepped into the shoes of a pet store employee who discovers their store supports puppy mills.
During the game, we helped you find a pet store near you that doesn’t support puppy mills.
A puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where making money is given priority over the health of the dogs.
What does this mean? Unlike responsible breeders, who care deeply about the health of their animals, puppy mill operators often fail to apply proper pet care practices. This means sickness and infections are common, both in the puppies that are sold to stores and the mother dogs who live in overcrowded, dirty conditions their whole lives.
There are as many as 10,000 puppy mills in the US. Virtually all dogs sold at pet stores come from these mills.
Share the Puppy Text game with six friends to put them in the shoes of a pet store worker who must choose whether to stand up to animal abuse or ignore it. At the end of the game, we’ll provide tips for stopping puppy mills in the real world.
