School supplies today go well beyond traditional pencils, paper and a backpack -- and in a struggling economy, many families are seeking assistance to ensure their children have the necessary materials once school doors open next month.

DoSomething.org and Staples have teamed up with Grammy winning singer-songwriter, Ciara, for the second annual Do Something 101 school supply drive.
The drive encourages teens from the Great Lakes Bay Region to collect school supplies and drop them off at Staples, 4021 N. Euclid.
"Every little bit counts and, through Do Something 101, the more we can get these essential products to teens, the more we help kids stay in school and excel even further," said Ciara in a release.
All supplies gathered will be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Bay City.
The drive began July 21 and runs until Sept. 19.
