School supply drive scheduled

BRADENTON — The second annual Do Something 101 school supply drive is under way nationally, and supporting the cause this year is Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ciara.

Ciara is encouraging residents to collect school supplies and drop them off at their nearest Staples stores through Sept. 19, according to information released this week from Toby Srebnik. In addition, Staples customers can get involved by donating $1 at any Staples store with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting local teens in need. The donations will be given to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County.

Local Staples stores for supply drop off include 5627 14th Street West, Bradenton, and 7210 Manatee Avenue, Bradenton.

To help kick-off the campaign Staples is donating more than $125,000 worth of school supplies to the program, said Srebnik.

Bradenton-area teens who want to get involved can go to www.DoSomething101.org for ideas on how to run local school supply drives.

Whether holding a school supply drive at summer camp, during a sports league or at a block party, DoSomething.org and Staples offer tips and resources for how to get started and make the most of every teen’s summer, the release stated.
