It may not be the flashiest awards show, but the Do Something Awards 2011 is probably the most significant awards show that’ll air this year. Instead of doling out trophies to celebrities for their ability to portray fictional characters on screen, VH1’s two hour awards show honors young people’s commitments to social change.
And in this day in age, where sex and scandal grabs all the headlines, what other network or award show does this?
This year’s five finalists, who are in the running to be awarded with $100,000, are ultimately all winners. Whether it’s 25-year-old David Schwartz’s Real Food Challenge, or the 25-year-old Adam Lowy’s Move for Hunger, the Do Something Awards shows us that while America’s young people may be addicted to Angry Birds, they still care enough to effect change in the world.
