LADY GAGA TOPS DOSOMETHING.ORG’S
3rd ANNUAL ‘TOP 20 CELEBS GONE GOOD’ LIST
Naughty or Nice? DoSomething.org names the ‘Top 20’ stars who chose to use their celebrity powers for the most good throughout 2010.
New York, NY (December 23rd, 2010) – Whether from an altruistic streak or images desperately in need of a makeover, today’s stars are latching onto causes quicker than ever – making choosing a cause as standard as choosing the right dress. Many talk the talk, but who among them really walks the walk?
DoSomething.org, the charity leader for teens & social change, released today its 3rd Annual ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good,’ a list of pioneering celebrities and entertainers who put their celebrity muscle to good use in 2010 by taking action.
“This list recognizes all those celebs who got out there & did something in 2010, and we don’t just mean opening their wallets,” said Megan Anhalt, Director of Media & Talent at DoSomething.org. “They’re the real deal and their actions got other people moving too. We hope more celebs continue to follow suit!”
Lady Gaga tops the list this year for her commitment to GLBT issues, actively campaigning against the controversial ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy of the US military, whose repeal was successfully put to vote by the US Senate earlier this week. Gaga beat back Matt Damon, whose ongoing efforts to provide safe drinking water & sanitation in developing countries earned him the top spot in 2009.
Other notable influencers making the list are Alicia Keys, whose celeb-packed ‘Digital Death’ campaign successfully raised over $1.1 mil for ‘Keep A Child Alive’ to fight HIV/Aids, Leonardo DiCaprio for his continued environmental efforts, and the list’s 1st power couple Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore, whose DNA’s Foundation’s efforts to halt sex trafficking around the world led to a removal ‘adult services’ ads on Craigslist.

Most notably absent from the 2010 list are Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt, who ranked #3 & #7 respectively in 2009.
To determine the rankings, DoSomething.org analyzed celebrities across three key areas: Popularity, Influence, and Impact. In partnership with ChaCha, they narrowed their pool to 50 popular celebrities who took significant action in 2010 and opened a public vote to determine the Top 20. A focus group was then conducted to determine final rankings, with cause identification and inspiration to take individual action each playing a key role.
