DoSomething.org, Staples team up for school-supply drive

DoSomething.org and Staples are teaming up for the second annual national Do Something 101 school-supply drive.

Richmond teens may help by collecting school supplies and dropping them off at Staples stores through Sept. 19. In addition, Staples is asking customers to donate $1 at its stores, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting local teens in need.

All school supplies and donations will be given to the Communities in Schools of Virginia, an educational and not-for-profit organization that serves disadvantaged youth.

Local Staples stores for supply drop-off include:
• 1601 Willow Lawn Drive, Suite 301, Richmond
• 9111 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond
• 1248 CarMia Way, Richmond
• 1530 North Parham Road, Richmond
• 3540 Pump Road, Richmond

To help kick off the campaign, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ciara is starring in a public-service announcement that will air on television and radio nationwide through September. Staples is donating more than $125,000 worth of school supplies to the program.
