Last night, VH1 attended the DoSomething.org Kickoff Event at B.B. King’s Blues Club in New York City, where the five finalists who will compete for the 2011 Do Something Award for community service and social change were announced. The winner will receive $100,000 to put toward their cause. The event was hosted by Kevin Jonas and featured a performance by the Plain White T‘s and special appearances from High School Musical‘s Corbin Bleu, Friday Night Lights star Aimee Teegarden, singer JoJo, and actor Josh Ritter.
Before the show, we spoke to Jonas, who explained what the Do Something Awards mean to him. He told us “It’s something we’ve been involved with since 2007, me and my brothers. It’s not about one person doing something big, it’s about a bunch of people getting together in a local community and doing something great.” And that’s exactly what all the young finalists have done (we can say confidently that no other award show has ever made us cry, but the Do Something Awards have done just that).
After the jump, find out more information on the finalists and how you can nominate your favorite celebrity do-gooders for the awards.
