11 Ways to Take Action Around Poverty

  1. Support DS101 and collect new school supplies for kids in need.
  2. Organize a canned food collection drive and donate the goods to your local food pantry.
  3. Play the Food Force game to learn about global hunger and ways to prevent it.
  4. Poster your school campus with facts about hunger and what people can do to help.
  5. Clean out your closet and donate the clothes you don’t wear or that don’t fit to a homeless shelter.
  6. Volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen.
  7. Host a movie screening of great movies like The Pursuit of Happiness, Kicking It, and Slumdog Millionaire. After the film, talk about what you’ve learned and ways to take action to solve the problems you just saw.
  8. Donate your instrument. If you haven’t picked up your tuba from that band class three years ago, donate it! Instruments can give children and adults living in poverty a great outlet, and many talented people can’t afford instruments.
  9. Host a benefit concert or battle of the bands to raise money for your favorite org working to end poverty.
  10. Hold a poetry or book reading at your favorite local spot – ask people to come and read homelessness and poverty-related works to raise awareness and collect donations
  11. Get involved locally and stay connected – link up with your local shelter or soup kitchen and see what you can do for them besides volunteering. If they serve a lot of kids, they may need school supplies, basic medical supplies, or certain articles of clothing (coats, shoes). Check in with your contact at the shelter every season and see what you can do to help.

every few months i clean out my closet and give stuff 2 Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. and places like those. :)

i would help by raising money and sending them to africa, honduras, Mexico, and some parts in asia and south America just for the children to have the proper care and the nutrition they need
