How To: Change the Law and End Abuse!

It’s time to ACT to end dating abuse. And it's easy to do.

  1. Look up the Current Law Break the Cycle just released its annual State Law Report Cards for 2009! Using a detailed and comprehensive grading system, Break the Cycle awarded each state a grade based on minors’ accessibility to domestic violence restraining orders. State grades were released for the first time in 2008 and some states responded by making positive changes. Which states stepped up and which ones still have work to do?
  2. Does your state still have improvements to make to help protect teens? Let them know! Download this letter and send it to your members of Congress—after all, it’s their job to listen to you. Let them know minors have rights! Locate your Senators and your Representatives to start!

Victims need to be able to get help from the cops, but where I am, it has to be serious before it can even become a crime. It shouldn't have to get to that point. I want to help the progress.

Every one needs to feel safe and secure in school, out in public, at home, or where ever they may be. Regardless of the individuals age he or she needs to be helped by the law or the local community. I usually prefer chosing the community when it comes to these things because a strong community helps one another. No one is ostracized because of their religion, gender, sexual preference, or color. The law usually bases their decisions on these characteristics wrongfully accusing, degrading, and abusing individuals and then ultimately depriving them of their rights not only as U.S. citizens but more importantly as human beings.

Community building is key. Everyday ordinary people are the ones who make the differences. Law makers base their decisions on profit. The best interest of corporations, pennies before people, ect. Did law makers initiate the idea of Civil Rights, Women's Rights, Environmental Justice, Equal Marital Rights, and Workers Rights? I think not. The people did. The majority( popular sovereignty) not the Minority( those who in power who bathe in their cess of wealth)

in arkansas it is now a felony to hit an animal. but if you hit a woman or a man you get in trouble the second time. has the people really came to this conclusion that an animal is more important than a human? something really needs to be done

i completely agree with this & am glad to see that people are taking action in making improvements. Even locally is a huge help. It will help spread the word about Domestic Violence.

I get to send this letter to Kay Bailey Hutchinson in Texas. Sure, hitting a women is a bad thing and you get in trouble once, but hitting a teenage girl or boy is not taken as seriously. I totally am gonna do this!

I'm glad someone started this it was about time that the abuse of teen relationships stopped.. I'm glad teens are taking action and trying to make improvements to our daily lifes. This is not a game this is a huge deal and can cause in death if not helped or stopped. So take a stand and help out those in need..
