Still have to buy presents for family and friends, but running a little tight on cash? Check out these money saving ideas that will not only wow, but give your wallet a much needed break.

DIY. Instead of buying pricy cards and wrapping paper, take a page from your elementary school days and make them with colored paper and art supplies. You can also make homemade gifts. Bake holiday treats, sew personalized tote bags, or make beautiful handmade bracelets for family and friends.
Stop spending... Take the week or so to save. Pack your own lunch, bring reusable water bottles. It may not seem like much, but $5 or $10 here or there every day really adds up! You can put that extra dough towards gifts.
Shop at a discount. Stores like Marshalls, T. J. Maxx, and Filene’s Basement sell overstocked brand-name and designer clothing at a discount. For the rents’ you could try Tuesday Morning, a discount home accessory store.
Buy a group gift. Get other people in on your purchase. You could team up with your siblings to get a gift for your parents. Or buy one large gift for the whole family, rather than purchase individual gifts for everyone. This tip will save ya not only money, but time.
Teach a skill. If you’re great at photography, offer to teach friends and family. Can you play an instrument? Gift a free lesson to your siblings. Or maybe you’re a computer nerd (no shame), in which case you could set up a blog for a friend, or get your grandparents wired.
Create a list. Write down everyone you plan to get a gift for, ideas on what you plan to give them, and how much you want to spend. Then stick to your budget.
Buy an older model. Do you really need the newest version of your smartphone? You know – the one you just replaced a few months back? Answer: No. Since we live in an age where having the iPhone 5 (or whatever it is these days) is so important, we know this might not be ideal. Think of it this way – not only is it cheaper, but you won’t have to wait in line.
Secret Santa. This is a fun way to include your ENTIRE group of friends without breaking the bank. Definitely put a price cap and tell the group to get creative!
