- Stop using tanning beds, because they cause sun spots, premature aging, and even skin cancer.
- Appreciate my body and the natural color of my skin.
- Guarantee myself a lifetime of healthy skin by taking care of it now, and not putting off worrying about it until I’m older.
- Remind myself that the celebrities and models I see in movies and magazines aren’t baking away in tanning beds – they have professional spray tanners who help them fake a golden glow.
- Understand that a healthy glow doesn’t come from a tan – it comes from being confident in your own skin.

Additional Ways to Take Action
- Get tanning salon ads out of your school newspaper! Get a list of facts about the dangers of tanning beds put in that ad space!
- Have a Fake Bake in your school.
- Organize a beach party in your school gym.
- Get the prom committee to provide a list of tanning bed facts at ticket sales tables.
- Organize a rally outside a local tanning salon demanding that they stop targeting young people.

i'm very fair and i've been going tanning maybe four times a week for over a month. i've been going tanning because it would give me more confidence. Everyone at school would ask if i ever stepped outside my house. Since reading the article in seventeen.. i've been thinking and found out i've been being really stupid to think i would be more attractive if i changed my skin color. So now i'm going to stick to fake baking and using sunscreens whenever i can. and i hope others sign this!
I have been in a tanning bed once in my 22yrs. Nothing changed except damage to my skin. Pale is the new tan thanks to twilight so lets go with it! In other cultures fair complexions are considered the most beautiful. We are beautiful the way we are. If we were all the same the world would be Boring!

Tanning beds scare me. Why would you try so hard to get a perfect tan when you're actually ruining your skin. I just don't get it. People need to start learning the facts. Tanning beds can kill you. I have already pledged and intend to keep it.

I am strongly against tanning because when my mom was young, she would go outside and just lay out in the sun and bake. Because of this, she got melanoma, which is fatal. Luckily, she pulled through and she no longer has it. Just knowing that someone you know and love went through this is enough to make anyone realize the dangers of excessive tanning.
I am so glad teens are starting to get it, im 17, and my dad died of melanoma skin cancer, cancer is no joke, especially melanoma, it is very deadly. i use a really good self tanner by lancome, the flash bronzer for legs or body works great, it smells good!!! it has a slight tanner odor, but its not like the others, and its fool-proof.
I am so glad that this issue is being raised more! It's so important that teenagers understand although tanning may make your skin look great, it in reality is damaging your body and in the future, your health! Everyone should learn to embrace their natural skin tone!
