Action Tips: Travel in "Green-style" to the Prom or Dance

Green is the new black... and that doesn't just apply to fashion. Consider making your travel to the prom as green as possible.

Carpool

Carpooling to prom is an awesome way to start off and carry out a Go Green prom theme. Have fun with this one.

  • In place of renting a gas guzzling bus, why not everyone car pool in a group on their bikes? Throw some jeans on under that prom dress and bike to prom in large groups. You can contact your local police department and discuss options they may offer for escorting your senior class in a group prom bike ride. It’s also a great way of getting press around your cause!
  • If you're traveling with a large group, steer away from that stretch hummer - it's a killer on the environment (never mind your pocket!). You're better off renting a bus and packing everyone in there.

Rent green!

If you just must travel in a car, consider renting a hybrid. You receive many earth and money saving benefits including:

  • 50 plus miles per gallon and more than 600 miles on a single tank. For young penny pinchers, this can be a significant savings especially with ever-unpredictable price of gas.
  • When traveling at low speeds, most hybrids emit zero greenhouse gases because of their electric motors.

Go public

Make a statement by taking mass transit. This too is a great press op!
