Description

Location(s)

Global Volunteers needs help from volunteers to teach various subjects and work on construction and health care projects for village development projects alongside local people of Ghana. Build a "bridge of understanding" and help create new opportunities for Ghanaian children and their families.

Volunteers are needed to teach English, basic sciences and math and to assist at a community vocational school where women ages 18 to 25 learn nutrition and home management.

You can help in construction, building, renovating or painting community buildings. Volunteers who can do carpentry, landscaping, painting or masonry are a very useful resource.

Volunteers are also needed to help with public health education; the small rural clinics in our host communities need professionals to teach basic principles of public health, vaccinate children, check blood pressure, perform basic physical examinations, and diagnose illnesses.

No previous experience required. Great for families!

Skills

Virtually any native English speaker can assist with English classes. And if you have an area of expertise in science or math and you can explain concepts to elementary- and secondary-age students, then you can help as well. Internist, family physician, gynecologist or other specialist are needed to perform patient examinations, provide prenatal care and make referrals to the regional hospital. Nurses are needed to help vaccinate children and to assist at the well-baby clinic. Dentists are needed to extract teeth. Eye-care specialists can be especially helpful. Volunteers who can assist with physical labor in carpentry, landscaping, painting and masonry are always needed. But, you don't need professional experience!
