Description

Take the journey of a lifetime and a journey of conscience, in which you help rescue children in great need, while experiencing a professionally guided trek in Nepal, one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Nepal Orphans Home (NOH) is organizing a special tour, combining one of Nepal's most exhilarating treks with the rescuing of Kamlari (indentured servant) girls. We hope to have thirty people participate as trekkers. The fee for this, after expenses, will cover Nepal Orphans Home's cost of providing for one rescued girl's shelter, food, clothing, education, and health care for one year at the Lawajuni (New Life) House in Narti or Papa's House in Dhapasi. The volunteer will be part of 26-day adventure, including a visit to the Lawajuni House and then trekking to Gokyo Village and Everest Base Camp, one of the most famous treks in the world. For the itinerary, cost, and other details, please see www.volunteernepal.com/trek.asp.

Skills

Trekking, especially at higher altitudes, requires a certain level of physical fitness. This trek can be strenuous, but we will have four guides to accompany us so that individuals may seek their own pace. The maximum elevation is 5,550 meters (Kalapathar). One should be in reasonably good shape with weekly yoga, walking, running, or aerobics as a pre-trip conditioner.
