Description

Join us as we create positive influences and sustained change the lives of children and women in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. At Selamta we provide a constellation of small, permanent, loving family homes created to protect orphaned children and marginalized women. Our all-volunteer Ambassador Program gives you the opportunity to help Selamta's children and women rebuild their lives. Teach English at the Alpha School; it is an amazing experience. Under the guidance of our volunteer coordinator, each Ambassador design and implements a service-learning project that enriches the lives of the kids and women at Selamta. Personalize your project according to your interests and skills. Each service-learning project teaches valuable skills, provides opportunity for creative expression, and benefits the entire Selamta community. Successful projects include a woodworking workshop, a print-making workshop, various art projects, and the construction of a chicken coop. Decide to make a difference.

Skills

Volunteers should be self-motivated, mature, patient, flexible, compassionate, independent and respectful. Remember that the issues you will be dealing with can be challenging, both physically and emotionally. Selamta Ambassadors are positive role models who offer our kids the opportunity to practice their English, receive individual tutoring, and engage in projects that facilitate personal growth. They play with, mentor, and provide love to the children at Selamta. The Selamta Ambassador experience will change your life and how you think about the world. During the months before volunteering in Ethiopia, each Selamta Ambassador is required to raise $5,000 to support a small family home for eight children, one mother and ?auntie.?
