Helping coordinate the partners involved in Wake Up Pune, the city wide HIV & AIDS awareness campaign (www.wakeuppune.org).
Deep Griha Society (DGS), a locally-based grassroots Indian NGO, is looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers to join its team. The organization’s program of activity is focused on empowering the urban slum and rural communities of Pune. DGS is looking for experienced individuals to get involved in a number of different areas. This really is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to shift their career to work for not-for-profits or fundraising, and gain valuable experience at the heart of a local, Indian run charity.
Job Description
• Organize monthly partner meetings
o Collate and circulate agenda
o Support whoever is chairing the meeting
o Write minutes and circulate to attendees and partners
• Attend Wake Up Pune related events to raise the profile of the campaign
• Identify potential new partners
• Develop fundraising initiatives to generate money with which to run WUP activities
• Supervise creation of campaign materials such as leaflets, posters etc.
• Manage the WUP website (www.wakeuppune.org) updating regularly with details of WUP events and HIV-related news
• Manage local and international volunteers in day-to-day campaign related activities, and at key WUP events (e.g. World AIDS Day celebrations)
• Manage relationships with partners (e.g. Open Space)
• Develop initiatives through which to promote the WUP message across Pune
• Draft press releases and work with the media
• Document post-event analysis/reporting
Minimum requirements and competencies
• Educated to a degree level
• Ideally 2 years work experience (Experience of relevant campaign or events organization work would be ideal)
• Working knowledge of computer systems (creative packages such as CorelDraw, Photoshop, Publisher and web content management system(s) would be a distinct advantage)
• Confidence communicator with excellent written and presentation skills (fluency in English is essential)
• Self motivated, proactive and results-driven with a high level of initiative
• Knowledge about HIV & AIDS related issues (in-depth would be a distinct advantage)
• Determination, patience and the ability to be well-organized are essential in the successful candidate!
Deep Griha is looking for a minimum commitment of 4 months from volunteers. DGS provides accommodation at a dedicated volunteer house Rs200 per night, inclusive of meals and transport.
