Music gives everyone the opportunity to be an individual. To cut music is limiting our creativity and individuality. Because it gives kids a focus in their spare time and once you start getting good at it, it becomes fun. If music is cut altogether from schools, that means whole generations of kids don't learn music. One of our bandmates had a terrible music program at his school because of budget cuts. It's the best part of the school day! Playing music, dancing and singing makes you feel good and makes everyone get along. It is something everyone has in common.
One of the parents stumbled upon the contest while looking for organizations that give grants to music programs She was looking for grant $$ for Rockshop Academy, which is where all the members of our band met and learned how to play music. We then wrote the script and changed the words to American Woman to fit the "music education" cause. We then asked a friend of our, Josh Morton, who is a videographer (and is also in a band) to film us. We asked a retired teacher from our school if we could use her 1869 school house. She said yes.
It was really hot while playing our instruments the day of filming. Also, memorizing our lines and wearing 1890's clothing. Also, taking 7 or 8 takes of just the song in 90 degree weather.
