11/11 – More Than Just a Cool Number

Sunday marks Veterans Day, which honors all American Veterans (living and dead). It's a great opportunity to give (even more) thanks and to make sure vets know that we appreciate the sacrifices they’ve made for our country.

The holiday started off as “Armistice Day,” which is still celebrated, also on 11/11.  Armistice Day commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany, ending WWI.  This armistice stopped fighting on the western front, and took effect at eleven o’clock in the morning – “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. Some people think that 11/11 is a lucky number, (remember how last year everyone was saying to make a wish on 11/11/11?) and we think the fact that the Great War ended on this day is the ultimate proof!  Here are some events happening this weekend – from California to New York City – that celebrate our troops.
