11 Places To Plant Trees

Trees are awesome. Unfortunately we keep cutting them down faster than we're planting them. In honor of Arbor Day try planting a tree in an unexpected place.

  1. Your desk. As Mr. Miyagi would say bonsai! By putting a tiny tree in your room you'll be reminded to go green every day.
  2. Highway meridian. This one is going to take a lot of leg work, permission, and safety measures, but it's likely those in charge of keeping the highway clean and safe would welcome a little more greenery.
  3. A neighbor's backyard. Permission is a must, but by planting a tree in a willing neighbor's yard rather than your own you're doing good for the environment and for others.
  4. At a children's hospital. Sick kids are often kept cooped up inside, but with more trees by their window there's more nature for them to enjoy.
  5. At a nursing home. Senior citizens at nursing homes are often able to walk or be wheeled around the grounds where they'd appreciate the extra foliage.
  6. At an elementary school. Kids won't just enjoy the extra trees to climb, they can learn about different types of trees.
  7. Parks. Swing sets are great, but what's a park without plenty of trees for shade?
  8. A skate park. Sure it's full of metal and concrete but that doesn't mean it can't use a little nature around the edges.
  9. Shelters. Those at shelters could use the added cheer of living around more nature.
  10. Your school's cafeteria. This one would have to be in a pot but it might make your classmates think before they use up twenty napkins.
  11. A forest. Crazy, right? But at the rate forests are being cleared trees need to be replaced in forests too.
