1+1=Beyonce?

There are a number of groups today trying to keep kids in school, and working hard to study. From bribing kids to get good grades, to raising teacher salaries, everyone is trying to find the magic formula. Teyana Taylor, the “Google Me” star has been working with a new organization called Young Faces Smiling to try develop her own program of teaching kids. We caught up with her at the Philantrhopic Arts Foundation holiday party to learn her methods.

While Teyana thinks programs that give kids money to learn are interesting, she thinks they’re not without their faults: “I still think that kids should go to learn and not only go for the money” she tells us.

What ideas does she have up her sleeve?
“Instead of teaching them strictly math, it could be ‘If Teyana Taylor or if Beyonce ate four biscuits, how many biscuits would you have left from 15?’ So it’s an easier way to learn math and language arts.”

“We’re actually working on it right now, and the feedback we’ve gotten is very good. We already have it in a lot of schools out in Harlem; now we’re trying to work it out to where it could be worldwide.”

The mission of Young Faces Smiling is to transform the learning experiences for one million kids to achieve confidence and success in their academic goals. Teyana was recently given an award for her work with the foundation, and we think she has just the gumption to spread her teaching to the masses.

What do you think? Would you learn better if celebrities were introduced into your homework problems? Let us know below!

Hmmmm I think I would pay attention more at first but maybs get distracted because then I would start thinking of celebs and what they're doing... hmm IDK!

That's a good idea. My mind drifts when it comes to apples but I would totally pay attention if the teacher was drawing Beyonce and Teyana!

Love her passion to create Young Faces Smiling (cool name). But a) who has a song called Google Me? and b) i think it's kind of sad if we are becoming a society that answers math problems better if celebrities are in them. I'll for getting kids to learn in different ways, but sticking Beyonce into word problems seems a little silly.

I think it's a nice gesture, a nice trinket if you will, jdsport8.

Although teens might be able to relate more to math or any other subject through this method, I don't totally agree with it. Instead of inroducing them to new concepts, they are just reiterating what they see on television or what they hear on the radio. it's basically limiting youth's knowledge!
