A Do Something Diva

Marvelynvia Do Something

Some girls can be such divas!--But that’s not always a bad thing. To prove it, VH1 is bringing back the legendary live concert event “VH1 Divas”—a show featuring some of pop music’s most talented female artists. This year’s show is set to air live Thursday, Sept. 17 at 9/8c and will benefit VH1’s Save The Music Foundation.

And the Divas are: Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Miley Cyrus and…drum roll please…our very own Marvelyn Brown! Marvelyn won't be singing, but this diva will be honored for her incredible work for the HIV/AIDS cause. She will join these leading ladies who will perform together live at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York.

For those of you who don’t already know about Miss Marvelyn and her "Marvelous Connection," you should! She was one of the five finalists to win a $10,000 grant at the Do Something Awards this year. The past six years have been crazy for this girl--Marvelyn has been using her HIV positive status to educate young people about the disease and the stereotypes that persist 30 years after HIV/AIDS was first reported.

All of the divas have a cause they rock. Adele and Kelly Clarkson are outspoken chicks with a positive attitude and message for girls with body image issues. Leona Lewis donated all the proceeds from her single “In The Sand” to the charity Sport Relief and has a passion for South Africa. And Miss Miley “Stands Up To Cancer” and rocks it out for the environment!

You can go to Divas.VH1.com to submit a “Diva Story” text or video testimonial that tells the world how your favorite diva has influenced your life. If you admire these divas, why not follow in their footsteps? Rock out Marvelyn’s cause by spreading the word about HIV/AIDS and encouraging your friends to get tested!
