Adrian Grenier and Alexis Bledel stopped by NYC to host a fundraiser benefiting a new school in the Bronx.
Education in the United States is on everyone’s minds. Founded on the belief that every child can succeed, Harlem Success Academy Charter Schools provide free, public education to some of the least served communities throughout New York City. One of these least served communities is the Bronx. In this NYC borough, 41% of families are illiterate, 60% of its residents receive government assistance for food and with some of the most severe hunger-related problems in the nation, and 37% of residents lack money to buy food at some point in the past twelve months.
For these reasons, the Bronx Success Academy 1 Charter School is opening this Fall. With Adrien and Alexis at the head of the game, the fundraiser was in full force to raise money for the school. On the outside of the school, music by D-Nice and DJ Jesse Marco Against filled the school yard against a backdrop of graffiti decorated walls and chalk colored grounds. Inside the school, contributed artwork lined the school hallways for guests’ viewing pleasure. Finally, a silent auction including awesome items such as tickets to any Dave Matthews Band concert and yoga with Russell Simmons helped kick this fundraiser into full force.
So, I think Jay-Z would agree when I say, let’s hear it for New York.
