Angelina Jolie isn’t letting six kids and a movie career slow her down. And while we love seeing her tote around those adorable kids (and husband!), it’s nice to see her getting back to the fight for human rights. She once again eased comfortably into her role as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador this week, paying a visit to refugee camps in Thailand.

Angelina spent yesterday talking with refugees from Myanmar now living in northern Thailand and is pressuring the Thai government to grant these refugees greater freedom.

Jolie said she was “saddened to meet a 21-year-old woman who was born in a refugee camp, who has never been out of the camp and is now raising her own child in a camp.” Can you imagine spending decades in a refugee camp without knowing the outside world?

Well Angelina agrees that this cycle has to stop – “we must find some way to help them work and become self reliant.” The up to 111,000 refugees in the nine camps in northern Thailand are not allowed to venture outside the camps to work or get higher education.

Angelina also talked about the deepening crisis and squashing of democracy in neighboring Myanmar. Many Rohingya refugees are crossing the Myanmar-Thailand border to escape persecution in Myanmar, but are not being granted refugee status by the Thai government, so they risk being sent back to Myanmar.

Rohingyas are an oppressed Muslim minority and there has been evidence that they are abused by Thai military. This is particularly shocking because Thailand has been welcoming to the hundreds of thousands of non-Muslim refugees from Thailand over the years. Angelina made a plea to the Thai government Rohingyas with the same respect.

It seems like Angelina, or Saint Angelina as some of her biggest fans call her, isn’t finished spreading human rights around the globe just yet. We don’t know how you do it Angelina, but keep it up!
