Angelina makes a pit stop for human rights

via foxnews.com

In between filming her new movie in NYC and on her way to the glam Cannes Film Festival in France, Angelina Jolie stopped in yesterday at the courtroom in the Hague in the Netherlands.

The International Criminal Court is located at the Hague, and yesterday the prosecution of the Congolese warlord, Thomas Lubanga, was underway.

Lubanga is the founder and former head of the Union of Congolese Patriots, a group that allegedly recruited and utilized child soldiers. Angelina was moved by the trial and issued a statement saying “I imagined how difficult it must be for all the brave young children who have come to testify against him” in what she called a “landmark trial for children.”

Angelina touched on a chilling moment, saying “After watching the proceedings from the viewing booth, I stood up and found Thomas Lubanga Dyilo looking at me.” >[?

Before jetting off to support hubby, Brad Pitt, who has a film premiering at Cannes, she took some time to meet with the ICC’s chief prosecution, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, who also issued the arrest warrant for the President of Sudan for the genocide in Darfur.

Leave it Angelina to take time away from film shoots, festivals, and a growing brood of kids to shed more light on different human rights issues around the world.
