Angelina Jolie does summer vacations a bit different from her celebrity counterparts. While George Clooney is living it up his Italian villa (we still love ya Georgey!), Angie is touring the Middle East on behalf of the UN, fulfilling her duties as a UN Goodwill Ambassador.

Angie and little Maddox were in Amman, Jordan on Tuesday where the starlet began her trip. She attended the 24th annual Arab Children’s Congress and she was honored for her continued support of the organization. Today, Angie left Jordan for a day trip to the war torn country of Iraq. Angie toured a refugee camp called the Chikouk camp in northern Baghdad. The camp is home to around 12,000 Iraqi refugees displaced by the war.

The refugees of the camp sleep in desolate conditions and while there is access to clean water, there is no electricity and the camp is filled with trash. After witnessing this first hand, Angie called for more aid for Iraq's internally-displaced people and said she hoped that the Iraqi government and the UNHCR will provide the refugees with new accommodation.

You may not be able to travel the globe, fighting crime like Angie. But you can help the many refugees living in the United States. Research ‘resettlement offices’ in your town and give them a call to ask if they have volunteer opportunities. A lot of resettlement offices have programs to tutor refugees in English.
