David’s Beckham’s future on the field may be in question, as he flip-flops between AC Milan and the LA Galaxy, but one thing that is rock-solid is his role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Last week, this footballer accepted a $149,345 from the Rangers Charity Foundation on behalf of UNICEF. The Rangers are UNICEF’s Scottish football (American soccer) partner and they’ve pledged to raise over $448,036 for UNICEF in the next three years. The funds will go to education projects in India and reach over 45,000 in 200 schools.
David has traveled to Sierra Leone and Thailand to see UNICEF’s work firsthand and is committed to using his fame to help this special org out.
The soccer stud kept it short and sweet at the check ceremony, saying that “this money will help transform children’s lives,” before adding “It’s great to be able to accept this check from the Rangers.”
Soccer teams like Barcelona, Manchester United and AC Milan also partnered up with UNICEF to make a difference around the world, so tell us, what American sports teams or athletes do you want to see stepping up to do more charity work? Let us know, comment below!
