Since he was already in Cape Town, South Africa, to help England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup, David Beckham took some time out to do a little good. The super hot soccer star visited the kids of Coaching for Hope, a program that helps raise HIV awareness and uses soccer to create a better future for South African youth. Even though soccer is huge in South Africa, access to sports is limited – a problem Charlize Theron is also working to improve. David played soccer with the kids and talked to them about their experiences with the HIV/AIDS virus. Says David: “Football has the power to change lives and these youngsters are able to learn valuable lessons through their love of the game.”
An estimated 5 million South Africans are living with HIV/AIDS – the highest number of any country in the world. South Africa also has some of the most children under 15 living with the virus, and in recent years it’s been responsible for almost half of all deaths in South Africa.
