You've heard before about Ben Affleck's many trips to the Democratic Republic of Congo, as he tries to raise awareness about the devastating state of war the country is currently in. Well now, Ben Affleck is taking this project one step further.

Last Wednesday, Ben spoke about a new short film he directed called Gimme Shelter for the UNHCR at the UN Headquarters. This four-minute documentary sheds light on the many humanitarian issues the Congo is currently facing.

"We made this film in order to focus attention on the humanitarian crisis in the DRC at a time when too much of the world is indifferent or looking the other way," Ben said at the event. "The suffering and loss we've all seen first-hand is staggering-- it is beyond belief."

The short film's ultimate goal is to eventually raise $23 million in 2009 to help pay for necessities like clean water and emergency humanitarian assistance kits for the people of the Congo.
