Beyonce brings meals to food banks

In 2005, Grammy-winning singer Beyonce Knowles founded The Survivor Foundation, which now reaches out to victims of natural disasters, homeless, and HIV/AIDS. With the help of her parents, sister Solange Knowles, and friend Kelly Rowland, the Survivor Foundation has helped thousands of people in need.

Through several initiatives, the Survivor Foundation has raised over $2.5 million. Past campaigns include Hurricane Katrina Relief, Houston's Habitat for Humanity, and the Beyonce Experience World Tour Food Drive.

Now, Beyonce is teaming up with Feeding America for the Show Your Helping Hand campaign to donate meals to food banks across the country. They've already collected 2.8 million meals so far and are trying to reach 3.5 million.

Having struggled with depression in the past, Beyonce channels her own personal experiences into helping others. Says the R&B singer, "Reaching out and touching lives is incredibly empowering. That's why I want my fans to experience the joy of making a difference by helping someone else." Spoken like a true survivor!
