The Miley Cyrus photo scandal in Vanity Fair was the news story of the summer (we totally took Miley's side, by the way), and on Tuesday her dad, country star Billy Ray, spoke up about it on the Today show. "I was surprised when I saw it," he said, "But hey, that's life. Stuff happens." Though Billy was at the shoot to take a photo with Miley that some criticized as inappropriate for father and daughter, he left before Miley's solo semi-topless picture was taken, claiming that he had to go to perform a show in Washington for troops just returning home from Iraq.
What do you think about this Billy's lackluster response?

She is 15 years old. And if he left before the photo was taken, shame on him for not having a chaperone with her, and shame on Annie for taking the picture, especially, if that was not the direction the photo shoot was going in when Billy Ray was there. Billy Ray is not only her father, but he has been in the celebrity arena for a long time, and he knows how fast things can get out of control. Seems to me he is looking to shuck the blame for this fiasco. She's your daughter, Billy Ray, and your responsibility.
She made a mistake. He made a mistake. It doesn't make him any less a parent nor does it make her any less a human being. I think it's terrible how quick (and apparently excited and gunho) the media always is to berate young female stars. You don't see them doing the same to the boys ... Can you say double standard? Jeez!
I mean it's not like he can hold her hand forever. She's growing up and there are going to be times when he's not going to be there. This one just turned out to be a giant huge deal.
but he was there, at the shoot! i'm guessing he spent at least 30 minutes on his hair--couldn't he spend 2 minutes speaking up for his daughter?
and why is he making ti worse by not being strong NOW?
I think he and his family probably just want to get over it and move forward. He doesn't want to make any involved statement to draw more attention to what was probably a difficult experience.
I think that Billy Ray just wants to get press. He wants to get his 15 minutes of fame again. His daughter is more famous than he is and im sick of him just being there trying to reclame is fame. Also the whole thing was blown out if proporsion, the pictures were that nice anyway. they werent flattering. Billy ray needs to go some where else and let his wife handle Miley
yeah billy ray Cyrus was not there to say something about the pictures.but miley is 15 almost 16!she is growing up and can make up her own mind.cause eventually she's going to want to do her own thing and not have daddy there all the time.he is not a bad father, and e has good parenting skills.people are just blowing this whole magazine thing out of proportion!and if miley was not comfortable with the photo shoot she would of said something because thats how she is and was raised to do so.
well i didn't even know there was a scandal...and i think the whole cyrus clan is a little overrated. i mean, didn't she want her own autobiography? if you are old enough to have a book written about you, you're old enough to decide what kind of pictures you want taken of you.
She is my age.... if i posed in those pics my family would kill me. The truth is, if Billy Ray was any kind of responsable dad he would have looked at the pics. He was there, mabe not the hole time, but he was there. The blame isn't and shouldn't just on Billy Ray though. In order for the pics to be pubilshed the PARENTS have to say it's ok. PLUS Miley has a mind of her own. She knew what she was doing.
