Rock icon, John Bon Jovi, who’s in the home stretch of his 99-city tour, took time to visit with the Williams family in the Morningside neighborhood of Detroit. The family of six benefited from the Habitat for Humanity program and moved into their new house in June 2007. Bon Jovi went on board with Habitat for Humanity in 2005 and continues to draw attention to the need for affordable housing nationwide.
Jon isn’t just a rock ‘n’ roller these days. Traveling beyond the world of music, he also owns the arena football team, the Philadelphia Soul, which he prides on being unlike other teams. "The Soul Foundation has really differentiated itself from other sports teams both in Philadelphia and around the nation by making community a huge part of its mission statement," Bon Jovi said.
We’re only half way there (and Living on a Prayer.)The Soul Foundation is one of the handful of organizations that are working to erect five new homes in Detroit's Morningside neighborhood by November of this year. There are plans to build 100 homes in Detroit in the next couple years and the Soul Foundation is joining the effort to help build a place that these families can call home.
"We really want to revitalize the neighborhood...so that the kids can play in these streets," said Bon Jovi. "That's what America is all about."
