Brad Pitt rebuilding in New Orleans
via babble.com
You might know Brad Pitt as the happy father of a culturally diverse family, but did you know about his seventh child? The one that just had a one-year old birthday? Well you may have heard about it if you’ve recently followed MSNBC or Architectural Digest’s January issue…that’s right, Architectural Digest! That’s because this one-year-old baby is indeed an architectural behemoth.
We’re talking about Pitt’s very own brainchild non-profit, Make It Right. After Brad visited the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, he was moved to take action. MIR intends to build 150 homes in the area, but it isn’t simply a regular rebuilding household project. Its genius lies in the fact that the project also focuses on building eco-friendly houses, since many scientists have concluded that climate change is increasing the frequency and strength of hurricanes.
Brad says in his MSNBC interview with Ann Curry, “Our goal was affordability first, sustainability and of course safety was a big issue, and aesthetics.” And you only have to check out some pictures of these housing to agree that they are indeed b-e-a-utiful! Right now, MIR has raised money for 86 of the 150 pledged homes. Eight families have moved in already. Pitt’s strong personal connection to the project is clearly seen as he gestures toward the different houses and names the inhabitants getting ready to celebrate their first Christmas in their cozy homes. Brad proudly says, “This time next year, there will be 100 families.”
We're so impressed with Brad Pitt massive efforts in New Orleans on top of his responsibilities as a father to his six children and a full time job as an actor! the national government should really take a cue from Brad Pitt here.. Now that Mr. Obama has announced plans for all these massive works projects to try to stimulate the economy and create jobs, he should make it a top priority to be as green with it as possible! In the execution, and in the final product, it will only serve the nation and the world much better in the long run!
go brad! GREAT work!
