Buy the clothes off Sean Penn's back

via Clothes Off Our Back

Sean Penn has been making the rounds on the awards-show circuit for his role in Milk, and looking quite dapper in his tux while he's at it. But it's not exactly his designer duds that are making headlines today. Did you love Sean Penn's portrayal of Harvey Milk in the award-winning movie so much that you would buy the clothing off his back? Well…now you can!

And not just the suit—the pin, and shirt too! The charity Clothes Off Our Back is auctioning off the whole she-bang designed by Danny Glicker. Glicker is nominated for an Academy Award for his Costume Design, just one of the many awards Milk is nominated for (Sean Penn is up for eight!!!). Now the famous threads are up for grabs at an auction that ends February 28th.

The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation hosts charity auctions to raise money to benefit children's charities.

The outfit is more than just Sean Penn-worn, it is also historical. Glicker and his department created it to precisely match the ensemble worn by the real Harvey Milk on Election Night in 1978 when he celebrated the statewide defeat of Proposition 6. Milk fought tirelessly against Proposition 6 because it sought to ban gays from teaching in California public schools and to remove known homosexuals and their supporters from their posts.

The proceeds from Penn's ensemble are going to Variety—The Children's Charity of Southern California; and The Hendrick-Martin Institute, home of the Harvey Milk High School, in New York City.

Maybe they should sell James Franco's clothes next. Who wouldn't want a shirt off his back?!

Would you pay $1,000 for a celeb's outfit? What about if it was going to benefit charity? Comment below!
