You've probably already heard the big buzz surrounding the party that catered to all the Hollywood starlets not invited to the Golden Globes. But the truth is, The Art of Elysium's Second Annual Heaven Gala was so much more than just a place to be seen during awards season.
Hosted that night by Kristen Dunst-- long-term supporter of the non-profit organization-- celebrities came out en masse to support the cause, which encourages actors, artists, and musicians to volunteer their time and talent to children battling serious medical conditions.
Hosted by Cartier and Vogue (who sponsored a show-stopping fashion show that night), the gala honored Eva Mendes with the Spirit of Elysium Award for her extensive work with the charity for over two years. Other Hollywood heavyweights that graced the red carpet included Gerard Butler, Salma Hayek, Ali Larter, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, and Kate Bosworth. All in all, the event was a massive success, raising more than $750,000 for the charity.
Founded in 1996, creator Jennifer Howell was inspired to make change when she witnessed a young boy
battling cancer who resided alone much of the time while he was in the hospital, due to his parents' unwavering dedication to their jobs. Utilizing her many connections she made while film making in LA, Jennifer organized The Art of Elysium with a community of Hollywood talents who all share the idea that no child should go through medical treatment alone.
Since its conception over ten years ago, the charity has garnered extensive support from Tinseltown's lovelies. Top activists for the organization include Ali Larter, who participated in the
Coach Cares campaign to benefit the Art of Elysium. "It's amazing how the smallest gesture can create the most profound connection," Ali said.
In November, Ben Affleck and Rachel Bilson hosted a Cartier Holiday celebration to also benefit the cause. At the event, the actors made crafts and visited Santa with sick children.
Also, Kristen Dunst recently designed sweaters for the Lutz and Patmos Fall 2008 collection, with $20 of each purchase from her design donated to the charity.
Other top supporters of The Art of Elysium include Brooke Shields, Courtney Cox Arquette, David Arquette, Forest Whitaker, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Joaquin Phoenix, Kanye West, Maroon 5, Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Penelope Cruz, and Scarlett Johansson.
