Forget about miniature dogs... everyone knows celebs' latest must-have accessory is a newborn baby! Now Hollywood's starry-eyed starlets are taking knitting lessons from good ol' granny to spread the warmth and love of newborns in developing countries among Africa and Asia.
Rebecca Romijn, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Debra Messing, Mischa Barton, and Patricia Arquette are among the celebs who are now supporting Save the Children & Warm Up America Foundation's Knit One, Save One campaign to knit personalized caps to help raise awareness of global newborn survival.
Nearly 4 million newborns die each year in developing countries, so participants are being asked to knit a cap to help protect these babies and keep them warm during the critical hours and days after birth. They may also include a personal note on the cap as well.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of this effort to help the world's babies survive," said Rebecca Romijn. "I believe all moms should get to experience the joy of seeing their beautiful babies grow up and do great things in life."
Mischa Barton adds, "It's great that you can help change a baby's life in just one hour--or more like a few hours if you're just beginning to knit like me."
The message included on Mischa's cap? "Even though we are far apart, I hold you close to my heart."
