Celebs are calling on G8

Famous faces everywhere have joined together to make an impact at the G8 conference this year. Some are supporting petitions and putting pressure on the G8 leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Britain, and the United States who are meeting in Italy this week.
Musicians KT Tunstall, Badly Drawn Boy, and Franz Ferdinand are standing behind Save the Children’s “Make Your Mark” campaign. The campaign created a petition demanding that the G8 raise the child and maternal healthcare aid to stop millions of children worldwide from dying from preventable diseases like diarrhea, pneumonia, and malaria. 200,000 people from across the UK and Africa have signed it and they handed it to Gordon Brown earlier this week.
A group of celebrities and dignitaries signed an open letter in Britain’s Daily Telegraph yesterday including Annie Lennox, Colin Firth, and Scarlett Johansson. The letter reminds the G8 of their promise to spend at least $50 billion in foreign aid. It begs them to focus on development goals in third world nations especially in healthcare and education. They also call for the leaders to take action around climate change in their respective countries by reducing carbon emissions.
You can show your support for the “Make Your Mark” campaign by sending an email to Gordon Brown! They are also holding festivals across the country this summer where you can sign their petition (with a thumbprint!) You can do like the stars do and start a letter writing campaign of your own for whatever cause you are passionate about.
