Celebs may not be eating at the fashionable NoBu—Robert DeNiro’s hot Hollywood restaurant—for much longer. What’s on the menu that these celebs dislike? Nobu offers an endangered fish known as the bluefin tuna and angry advocates used the first ever World Oceans Day to make it known.
In conjunction with the release of the new eco-doc “The End of The Line,” celebrities like Sienna Miller, Alicia Silverstone, Charlize Theron, Sting, Trudie Styler, Woody Harrelson, and Stephen Fry are all signing a petition to try and get the endangered bluefin off the menu.
The oceans may seem vast with a never-ending supply of fish and sea life, but nothing could be further from the truth. Overfishing is the most dangerous threat our oceans are facing today. And the bluefin tuna may be a Japanese delicacy but it is also at the extreme risk of becoming extinct: 90% of the oceans’ big fish like sharks tuna and swordfish are already gone.
If you are interested in saving the oceans, you can join the Animal Advocacy Brigade with the ASPCA and hear about any important animal legislation you can help campaign for! What do you think about this fish frenzy? Will Hollywood be able to save the bluefin tuna? Or will DeNiro keep the deep sea delicacy on the menu despite their demands? Tell us what you—comment below!
