Nelson Mandela is turning 91 on July 18th and New York City is going to rock the first ever "Mandela Day" concert! The event is in association with the beloved leader’s own campaign in association with the Nelson Mandela Foundation—called “46664” which works to raise global awareness about HIV/AIDS through unique live music events.

The concert will draw in star vocalists to Madison Square Garden like Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, Queen Latifah, Josh Groban, TLC, Cyndi Lauper and Jesse McCartney! Other stars will be rocking out in the crowd like Forest Whitaker, Sharon Stone, Susan Saradon and many others.

The event is designed to recognize and honor the achievements and values of the social leader who helped tear down racial boundaries in South Africa during his presidency in the 90s. His anti-apartheid work to make South Africa a multi-racial democracy and his commitment to ending the AIDS epidemic are celebrated throughout the week of his birthday.
