Russell Simmons, the charity champion himself, took the time to tell CGG how he gives back. This guy is the third richest man in the hip-hop industry and has five of his own charities. Oh, and did we mention he loves the name “Do Something”!?!?
“But it’s very easy to be a celebrity” he says, “your given this cash to spend it in good ways.” He reminds us to look at the people doing the “heavy lifting” for the cause and to try and create projects that make lasting change.
He was excited to see the support get recycled through the young finalists and the people who inspire them. That’s the thing about the Do Something awards: the real celebs that everyone is excited to see are the young people—the five finalists were the stars to see of the night.
Tell us what you think about Russell’s words of advice to young social change-makers! Should celebs listen to Russell Simmons and do more of the "heavy lifting?" Comment below.
