CGG Must See: The People Speak

The People Speakvia cinemamanagementgroup.com

Matt Damon is letting “The People Speak” in his latest film, but it is Hollywood stars doing most of the talking. Matt collaborated with the author of the bestselling “A People’s History of the United States”—Howard Zinn on the film and it is ready to release on the History Channel later this year.

The film explores the concept of democracy through the lives, experiences and words of ordinary Americans who changed the course of history. The film features dramatic reading of letters and documents read by modern day stars like Josh Brolin, Don Cheadle, Sandra Oh, Morgan Freeman, Rosario Dawson, and Sean Penn. It also includes musical performances by Pink, Wyclef Jean and John Legend among others.

And don’t worry; Matt is not stuck behind the camera on this project. He partakes in the history by reading the “Declaration of Independence” in the film. “It is an incredible document,” says Matt, “I think people either forget about it or have been taught it too early in their lives. It is a document worth reading and rereading every single year..."

As much as we like it when Matt goes to help abroad, we’re happy he is doing this project at home. We’re especially glad he is getting into the education cause (right in time for DS 101). Most importantly, the film reminds us that the US has a history of political activism and that an ordinary person has the power to make change.
