Charity not M.I.A. from MTV Movie Awards

M.I.A., a.k.a. Maya Arulpragasam, was the featured act at the official after-party for the MTV Movie Awards. Dressed as a neon jester in a thick platinum wig, the Sri Lankan singer jumped around the stage, singing her hits during the 30-minute set.

But here's the (Celebs Gone) good part: M.I.A. climbed on top of a photobooth and announced she was getting paid $100,000 for the gig . . . and that she’s giving it all away!

"I'm using it to build schools in Liberia,” she announced. Break that down, and it's about $3333.33 a minute for her singing, which is almost enough for two schools. (It costs $52,000 to build a school for 1,000.) Now, wouldn't it be cool if MTV threw in an extra $4K?

i like when celebs give away fees. can you put a list together of clebs who have done this? didn;t brad and angelina give away their People Magazine fee they got when Shiloh was born? They are about to have twins--is someone paying them for the pics? Where will the money go???

If I had money like that, I'd be giving it away too ... Still, there's plenty you can do even if you're broke. A little something goes a long way.

I love when artists use their public platform to do good and to inspire others to do the same for their "something"! I hope MTV chips in to support the power of music to have a positive impact.
