Click your ruby slipper heels together against AIDS!

via abbeville.com

As always, CGG was one of the first to clue you into all the top shoe designers reinventing Dorothy’s ruby slippers to commemorate The Wizard of Oz’s 70th Anniversary this year. That’s right; 19 celebrity designers including Gwen Stefani, Betsey Johnson, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, and Stuart Weitzman all joined together to answer the question “What shoes would Dorothy wear in the 21st century?”

Well, all of the designer’s shoes came together last night at a gala hosted at Saks Fifth Avenue to kick-off New York Fashion Week. And the best part is, all the modern-day ruby slippers will eventually go up for auction this fall with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation!

Of course, you’d be sure to count on CGG to attend Saks’ gala, which was certainly all things rubified. For starters, all the female hosts at Saks donned head-to-toe Dorothy gear, complete with braids, a gingham jumper, and red shoes. A faux yellow brick road carpet led you around the shoe exhibit which encased all the 19 pairs of designer heels. And $20 ruby Swarovski crystal bracelets were also up for sale to benefit the AIDS Foundation.

And now about the shoes themselves! Let’s just say, we’ve never seen such sky-high stilettos, let alone so many ruby crystals in our life (which were all donated to the designers by Swarovski Crystals)!! And encased in front of all the re-makes, was one of the original pairs of ruby slippers in-the-flesh—a pair that Judy Garland actually wore! But we didn’t dare get too close to that iconic pair, for fear that one of the two massive bodyguards would have punched us out (we kid… sorta.)

Needless to say, the venue was also glittering with a bunch of celebs including Molly Sims, Nigel Barker, Kevin Christiana, Santino Rice, Nina Garcia and Lindsay Price. And you can be sure that all these fashionistas agreed that Dorothy’s ruby slippers practically invented iconic fashion in itself. Which we pretty much have to agree with, ‘cause honestly, what little girl hasn’t dreamed of clicking her heels three times in a pair of sparkly scarlet pumps at least once in her life?!

So make sure to stay tuned for our slideshow of all the amazing designer ruby slippers, and for some CGG exclusive interviews with some of the star attendees!!
