Cynthia Nixon For the Cure

Cynthia Nixon is a survivor. There are no two ways about it. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, and after having surgery and radiation therapy, is now cancer free. Add to this the fact that her mother is a breast cancer survivor, and you can see why she's so active. She became the official spokeswoman for Susan G. Komen For the Cure, and even convinced the head of NBC to show her own breast cancer special.

She also works closely with AmeriCares HomeFront, for which she recently participated in a shopping spree at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

SATC dealt with breast cancer a few years ago, when Kim Cattrall's character Samantha was diagnosed on the show. When asked, Nixon said she thought the show handled it beautifully, especially since it's such a difficult subject to address.

This year is the 25th anniversary of Race for the Cure, and the NYC portion is September 14. Click here to sign up or find an event in your hometown.
