New Yorkers might be wondering what possessed David Arquette to climb atop the famous Madison Square Garden only to sit in a sweltering plastic box for two days in the mid-July heat. Well, we were too. So we caught up with David to get down to the bottom of his recent stunt.
“Why am I in a box?" David repeated to us, "That is a very good question. Snickers started this campaign called ‘bar hunger’ to raise awareness and make a really bold statement about hunger.” He is aiming to raise $250,000 (and many an eyebrow) for Feeding America. David is a long time supporter of the hunger cause: “It’s a really serious issue in our country. There are 36 million people who don’t know where they are going to get their next meal.”
He says that the box thing was not his idea, but he sure does enjoy it. So, What’s it like being in a box above 7th Avenue, David?
“People are walking across being like ‘dude, what are you doing?’ But I’m a dork, I’ve always been a dork. Oh, and some guy flashed me and I just found that awkward—just his nipple." Um...CGG is tongue-tied on that one.
We got David to give us the low down on how he manages all of his Hollywood heavyweight buddies to support his cause. “People can sense your compassion and your level of commitment to something. With my friends, I can go and I can tell them specific stories like when I was working at a pantry and I saw a girl come in and she couldn’t wait to open this bag of dinner rolls and eat a piece of bread. And it was shocking to see how incredibly hungry she was.” Be like David and share your stories with you buds, you never know who may want to take action alongside you!
So there you have it CGGers. You can make your “chomptribution” (try saying that 10 times fast) by donating on their special facebook page. Until September 7, Snickers will donate $1 for every person to join the Facebook page, and also match every dollar donated by supporters.
You can also help David’s favorite cause by hosting a food collection drive at your school or in your neighborhood. Send your donations to a soup kitchen in your area and rally some friends to help cook and serve meals!
