David vs David: Judgement Day

via eonline.com

Talk about showdown! Last night was a clash of the titans as David Cook and David Archuleta sang their hearts out for the American Idol finale. Even though the Davids dressed up in boxing outfits to go head to head, David Cook said that "as far as I'm concerned, the competition's over and we're just having fun."

Former Idol contestants from the season were on hand for the performance, including Jason Castro, Carly Smithson, and Michael Johns. They watched as Cook kicked off the first round with U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", and Archuleta followed it with his version of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" by Elton John. Simon called the first round for David A.

The second round showcased selections from the songwriting competition, and Randy and Paula commented on the ability of both Davids to sing a wide range of songs.

David Cook lived up to that praise when he chose "The World I Know" by Collective Soul for his last performance. He teared up at the end, and later told EW.com that "it's just an amazing song, so to be able to do it on the show, win, lose, or draw, was more fun than I could possibly put into words." David Archuleta has a similar connection to his final choice, John Lennon's "Imagine." "I think it's such a perfect song and message, and just one I really feel like I can show people what I love."

Both artists have been involved in cause work, and a foundation was set up to raise money to bring David Cook's brother Adam, who has a brain tumor, to LA for the final. Half of the money from the foundation will go towards his plane ticket and medical expenses, and the other half will be donated to the American Brain Tumor Association. David Archuleta has gotten involved too, spending a lot of time on the phone with fans during "Idol Gives Back", and performing at a charity dinner in Honduras, where his mom stepped in to help him finish a song.

The final airs tonight at 8/7c on FOX- who do you want to win?

I want him to win because his brother has a brain tumor. Seriously. I know that is a lame reason but it si true. I feel like a cause will be helped if he wins.
