Attention all last-minute applicants: Death Cab for Cutie are waiting for you!
The band - along with Do Something and the GRAMMY Foundation - are looking for young people who have an idea or existing project that uses music to make a difference. Why, do you ask? So they can award 25 of you (read: 19 and under) money, money, money . . . and more! Check it: 20 winners will score $500, and five grand prize champs will each get $3,000 - and a trip to Los Angeles to attend the Grammys on February 8, 2009!
Nick Harmer, bassist for the Grammy-nominated Cuties (that'd be for Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Album!), made CGG proud when he talked about being the Grants' spokesband with New York radio station WKTU DJ Matt Bosso today. "We've always been really interested in pursuing avenues where music and social change and social discourse and dialogue intersect," Nick said. "We're not a political band in terms of the music that we make, but we've always been [personally] involved in politics."
Though Death Cab won't be involved in the judging (that will fall to the likes of 2002 Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton!), Nick says they're all about "spreading the word and getting people excited" about the grants.
So what are you waiting for? Check out the competition and learn how to apply here!
And for more of Matt's iview with Cutie Nick, head to KTU's website for times when you can hear their weekly show about cause, KTU Cares, hosted by the fantabulous Cindy Vero. This coming Sunday, it's all about Do Something and Key Change Grants! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
