Drew Barrymore: hero for the hungry

via WPF.org

Drew Barrymore has been making all sorts of headlines lately, in a good way. The child star turned blowout big name, recently became an Ambassador against Hunger for the U.N.’s World Food Programme. After traveling to Kenya in 2005 to visit hungry women and children, she had a rude awakening of what life is really like for them:

“At first I was overwhelmed. How could I. as one small person, have any effect? Then I learned that 25 cents a day,” she recently told GLAMOUR Magazine. Drew was named Glamour’s hero of the month in this month’s issue. Why?

The Charlie’s Angel star decided to put her money in the bellies of children in Africa. After the price of food rose 55 percent in Kenya, Drew donated one million dollars to WFP to feed millions of Kenyan children.

I can’t think of any issue that is more important than working to see that no schoolchild in this world goes hungry,” the budding philanthropist told the World Food Programme.

The new Drew: girl on a mission. We’re so proud.

Wow! She really is an amazing role model for others...It's very cool that she takes the time to help others and isn't always in the limelight for wrong reasons. She seems really down-to-earth!
