Elijah Wood on the Art of Elysium
CGG
CGG caught up with the host of the Art of Elysium event to get the scoop on how this hot actor does good day in and day out.
CGG: How did you get involved in the event tonight with Elysium Field?
EW: They actually asked me to be involved in this specific event. I didn’t really know a lot about the charity, and I sort of did some research- found out about it, and I couldn’t really say no- particularly because they work with children. So then once I agreed to do the event, I got involved with the charity itself and I went to go experience first-hand what exactly that they do; which is essentially going to these hospitals and doing these artist workshops with either actors or musicians, photographers or other kinds of artists. They do these amazing workshops with the children from there.
And I think what’s so amazing, they wrote this story about how the whole organization started; which is essentially the friend of Jennifer, the owner of the company, had a friend who was dying of leukemia and she went to visit her friend in the hospital and there was a- that man was sharing his hospital room with a 3-year-old who’s family couldn’t come visit him often because both of his parents had to work to be able to pay for the bills. And she got into this overwhelming sense of, like, ‘My God, no children- no child should feel this alone.’ And it’s hard enough to go through something physically, but to be separated from your family, your friends, and a sense of real life- no kid should ever go through that. So she went back to LA and started doing these workshops and that eventually became The Art of Elysium. It’s such a beautiful thing. It’s so simple, but it’s so pure, and it makes such a difference. And it’s great for the artists too, you know, for the artist to come in here and- they get challenged as well. I think it’s really great for both individuals.
