Ethan Hawke tells a green tale
via babble.com
What does it take to turn an old, run down train track in the middle of a city into an environmental haven? Actor, writer, director Ethan Hawke tells the story of the “park in the sky” also known as High Line Park in New York City.
The historic elevated railway turned park runs a mile and a half long. Until 1980 the track was used to carry fret down the west side of Manhattan. Soon after it was abandoned, “nature began to take over.” The wind blew seeds in from across the river and birds dropped even more. Soon, a layer of soil built up and “wilderness took over.” While some tried to tear it down, others rallied to save it and turn it into a park.
And voila! A park was made and you can go visit it because it’s officially open. And tell us what you think of this park in the sky. Why are green spaces important to you? Check out Ethan's video and comment below!
